New Entry, Beauty Haul & Relaxer Review

Hi Everyone,

This is my first issue as Hair & Prettiness. My name is Thina-a curious scientist who just loves pretty things and most importantly is OBSESSED in growing my hair. So this blog will be about hair product reviews for readers in South Africa and all over the world. It will also be about clothes, fashion, beauty goodies, etc.

My first entry today will be about my most recent beauty haul-WOOHOO!!!! Relaxer review & whatever may pop up.

This is my first time buying Nailene faux nails & I'm impressed. They have endured washing my hair, apply hair mask, rising the hair mask & towel drying my hair. They are still on. However thereis one drawback-the glue gel is nearly impossible to dispel. Seriously I fought with it & eventually for the last two nails I used my mom's Dischem nail glue.

Rating: 6.5/10

Would I buy them again? Yes cos they offer pretty, short nails which make working on a pc much easier!

Facial masks: Also on my beauty haul was 10 beauty masks from the Asian beauty store. I bought two of each:
Lavender & Milk Intense whitening & fatigue removing mask
Rose dew & Honey Whitening & Nourishing Mask
After exposing to the sun
Four days anti-spot & anti-dullness
Three days anti-zit & anti-marks

I'm pretty excited about them. I gave my sister one & I have used the anti-zits one thus far. I love mask, facials are the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Relaxer Review!!
Motions Regular relaxer

I'm a Softsheen Carson girl. That is I use Optimum Anti-breakage or Dark & Lovely Normal. However Motions was recently introduced to the SA market & from the great reviews I read in the many African hair forums& Ateeya on youtube, I NEEDED to try it out. I bought my box end of July and removed my weave. I didn't use it immediately as I have a rule of thumb- I have to do a reconstructive treatment a week before I relax my hair in order to beef up my hair so it can handle the straightening process.

I finally used the relaxer last week. I have medium hair & NEVER use coarse relaxer. The relaxer contains many of goodies which the Optimum Anti-breakage contains:
  • Pre-treatment conditioner
  • Gel activator
  • Relaxer
  • Neutralizing shampoo
  • Silkening conditioning mask
  • Leave -in conditioner
  • Latex gloves
  • Mixing spatula

I applied the relaxer as instructed and left it on my head for 20min, which is the max time for coarse hair(remember I have medium). By that time my skalp was starting to tingling like i'm heading for a burn.

I then rinsed it out. washed with the shampoo. Applied the reconstructor which I kept for 10minutes. I rinsed and applied the leave in.

Result: Texlaxed hair-not relaxed, just softened growth. This was quite disappointing. I wonder if this product was made for coloured hair? Maybe the time should be extended 30-40minutes for South African hair.

Nevertheless I was disappointed I will have to return to Softsheen Carson and continue my hair journey to armpit length healthy relaxed hair.

Rating: 3/10. I really appreciate the additional products included to protect your hair during the process, plus those latex gloves ;-)
